No other industry has been growing so rapidly in the past ten years as the cruise ship industry. Just for the last four years all leading cruise lines have doubled their fleets and number of officers, staff and crew working onboard their ships. Many new cruise ship companies have emerged trying to get their share from the cruise market expansion.
With all the cruise ships currently under construction the number of cruise ship jobs worldwide is expected to triple by the year 2014 meaning over 47,000 new sea jobs. New cruise ships are still coming online at the average rate of seven per year, and almost every ship sets sail near full capacity week after week. Close to a million more cruises are taken every year than the one before, and every year ships get bigger and better. Ten years ago the largest cruise ship was under 100,000-tons, now, there are 38 cruise ships over 100,000-tons, many of them well over.
There are 15 more ships scheduled to come on line in the next three years. In late 2009 the era of the post 200,000-tons cruise ships began with the Royal Caribbean Cruises 220,000-tons giant "Oasis of The Seas" and in late 2010 Royal Caribbean launched her twin "Allure of the Seas" with a price tag of about $1.5 billion.
Just these two ships offer over 4000 new Royal Caribbean jobs. Cruise ships resembling giant floating hotels employ thousands of staff and crew members performing duties on job positions identical or very similar to jobs at five star hotels or resorts on land. There has never been a better time to apply for jobs on cruise ships. It is quite likely that a job that you have worked in the past will give you enough experience to qualify for various cruise line jobs. Almost every hospitality related job or job that you worked with customers or clients should give you enough experience and a serious chance to get hired for a number of cruise ship job positions.
Compared to other industries, cruise lines have a much higher employees turnover rate. Most people do not consider cruise ship jobs as life-long cruise career, officers, crew and staff members get promoted, change ships or cruise lines, go on vacation, return to school or just settle down on land, thus leaving many vacancies and job openings. For that and many other reasons cruise lines are ALWAYS HIRING and looking for new personnel. There is a cruise ship job for just about everyone. Cruise lines hire applicants from almost every country in the world offering a wide range of jobs (entry-level to highly specialized positions).
Regardless of your nationality or previous employment experience there are cruise ship jobs for you aboard the many luxury vessels cruising the oceans.
