Hotel management courses can prepare students to meet these standards and certifications. By meeting these standards, hotels can demonstrate their commitment to sustainability and attract environmentally-conscious customers.

4 Reasons Why People are Choosing Diplomas Over Degrees?

Travel Diploma

Travel Diploma
Diploma over Degrees

In recent years, there has been a growing trend of people living in Mumbai choosing to pursue Diplomas Over Degrees. There are a number of reasons why this may be the case, including the following:

  1. The cost of a diploma is cheaper than a degree

Many people are turning to diplomas as an alternative to degrees, especially when the costs of obtaining a degree can be far too high. A diploma usually takes less time and money investment than a degree and results in certification in a specialized field. This cost savings comes with the potential disadvantage that certification might not have the same level of recognition as a full degree; however, this is often outweighed by increased job opportunities related to the specialist skills developed during the diploma. Employers value such practical qualifications for entry-level positions just as much as university degrees, making diplomas an attractive option for those starting out their career.

  1. You can complete a diploma in less time than it takes to get a degree

If you are looking to gain the skills and knowledge necessary to work in a specialized field without investing four years of your life, then choosing a diploma over a degree might be the perfect answer. With shorter duration and course intensity, many students prefer diplomas from Travel and Tourism College in Mumbai which they can complete in less time than a four-year degree would take. It also gives them an opportunity to gain real-world experience earlier on by pursuing internships or ongoing learning activities. All these considerations, together with their smaller overall cost, make diplomas far more attractive than degrees for those looking for quick returns and headway into a chosen career path.

  1. Diplomas offer more hands-on training than degrees

Diplomas offer a unique educational experience for those seeking a more in-depth, hands-on knowledge of their chosen field. Unlike degrees, which provide general education concepts and oftentimes are less directly related to the industry, diplomas are centered around specialized skills and offer practical training through internships and placements.

These vocations include engineering, medical and health sciences, information technology, hospitality management and more. Also, Diplomas often provide students with the flexibility to pursue a multi-disciplinary or cross-training path throughout their studies. Employers are increasingly looking for well-rounded professionals that understand different aspects of the business they are interested in – someone who can think outside the box and help advance progress at the organization. Diplomas provide students with just that – invaluable real-world preparation that prepares them to succeed in today’s ever-changing workplace.

  1. You can specialize your skills with a diploma

A diploma is a great way to build upon existing skills and specialize for your career goals. A diploma can provide the extra knowledge and experience you need beyond a degree. For example, you want to pursue a career in a specific field, like accounting or engineering, in which case you can take courses related directly to that area of study without having to waste time following courses not relevant to that particular goal.

Diplomas can also give employers confidence that you have the hard skills needed for their industry. Along with offering practical career-specific qualifications, many diplomas are recognized by employers worldwide thus providing career opportunities around the globe. Therefore, if you are looking to specialize your current knowledge and skill set, consider taking a diploma over an entire degree program – it might just be the right choice for your continuing education!

CAREER ASPIRATION AS CABIN CREW

“What do you want to become when you grow up?”

“What is your aspiration in life?”

I am sure these are some of the questions you have heard before you even got out of school, or maybe facing these questions even today; and thought you never knew the right answer for it. But people forget that it is okay for some of us to be confused or lost in the path of finding the right career for oneself, or maybe on the verge of figuring it all out. Instead, they focus more on how the job profile sounds when you are asked about it by 10 people and judged by the number of zeros in front of figure that you earn.

Finding a right career which may be a perfect fit for you is important too! Aspiring to be something in life may arise from media, following somebody’s steps, having a desire to achieve something and prove others wrong, or a strong willpower and make it happen attitude.

To aspire something out of your comfort zone is not wrong, but lack of motivation and perseverance towards it, is! In order to achieve them, one should try setting goals and try achieving them as much as they possibly can. In the path of finding the right career, you may also realize that you do not belong in that profile, but rather than forcefully fitting yourself into it, you must go outside the box and not give up towards finding the right path for you. Afterall making mistakes is what would get you to realize what is right and wrong for you; and your satisfaction towards your job is what really matters!

Aspiring to be cabin crew and be a part of aviation industry rose when I was on a path of preparation for medical examinations. Sooner or later, I accepted that it wouldn’t have been the right fit for me or found happiness in what I did, irrespective of how cool Dr. Kritika would have sounded. Who doesn’t like dreaming about the glamorous life and travelling around the world that a cabin crew gets with his/her job? But some of them only pursue it because of the benefits and the glamourous lifestyle that it would provide. Apart from all the benefits, a cabin crew needs to interact with every passenger with utmost sophistication and grace, at the same time, making them comfortable and provide an amazing service. You need to treat your passengers the same way you would expect to be treated. Desire to help and serve towards other’s problems and finding happiness in others’ is what makes me ME! Benefits and extravagant lifestyle are secondary, and, in my opinion, that is how it should be! Being happy in what you do and achieving job satisfaction is primary but important. You don’t have to do it just because others are doing it, if you are unhappy, you are only going to make others unhappy.

As an aspiring cabin crew, it is necessary to have a warm and friendly nature to deal with situations while being calm and poised, a good problem solver, a good team player, adapting to changes and most importantly; to be empathetic. If one has these qualities, having a career in this sector would be easy. Of course, any person would face some hardships at their workplace, but they need to possess qualities in order to overcome them.

As exciting this job sounds, it does come with some shortcomings, but which job doesn’t? Some of it may include working for long durations under stressful situations, dealing with not-so-friendly passengers. But, if one has a drive to achieve something in their life, the disadvantages will not tie them up, instead, they will learn from their mistakes and grow as a person.

Changing a path from medicine to aviation would have come as a shock to many, even second guessed myself, but it is said that gut feeling is never wrong! I believe I possess such qualities required and fit perfectly for this profession that I intend to choose. I am hopeful for me and my aspiration to be right fit for each other and it would only keep allowing me to learn and grow more as a person; personally, as well as professionally!

WHAT MAKES CRUISE SHIP CAREER AND JOB SO UNIQUE

WHAT MAKES CRUISE SHIP EMPLOYMENT SO UNIQUE?

Working on a ship means you live and work onboard. This also means it is a 7-day work week with 10+ combined hours per day.

IS THIS A FULL TIME JOB?

Employment on a cruise ship is DEFINITELY a full time position. However, due to the intensity of shipboard work & life, it is on an assignment rotation basis.

HOW LONG IS THE ASSIGNMENT?

Assignments vary depending on the position and brand. For most of our fleet, it can be anywhere between 4 months thru 9 months depending on the position.

On the Pride of America only, entry level positions work up to five months with a scheduled, unpaid vacation. Management level positions work four months onboard followed by a scheduled, paid vacation

WHAT ABOUT TIME OFF?

That’s the best part. Although you work 7-days a week while on assignment, crew members get a BULK time off upon completion of the assignment period. It’s like banking your days off and taking it all at once.

WHICH SHIP DO I WORK FOR?

U.S. Federal regulations require U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident status for employment onboard the Pride of America. If you’re hired for the Pride of America, you will be deployed to that ship specifically.

For the rest of our fleet of vessels, all crew members are assigned to a position, not necessarily a ship. Although our preference is to bring back returning assignments on the same vessel, there’s a chance that you’ll be moved to where the role is needed.

WHAT IF I HAVE COMMITMENTS DURING MY ASSIGNMENT?

When you’re interviewing, it’s important that you share any pending commitment information. We can look into an assignment that works for both our new hire and the department.

HOW DO I GET TO THE SHIP?

For most assignments, Norwegian Cruise Line will provide full transportation from your home to the ship and back for the full assignment period. In some locations, we’ll even have someone meet you!

DO I NEED TRAVEL DOCUMENTS?

Employment onboard the Pride of America does not require a passport but recommended.

Overall, valid passports are needed for all our new crew members. New hires that are not US citizens, US Permanent Residents or Canadian will need to obtain a C1/D visa.

WHAT IS A C1/D VISA?

It is a special visa for non US & Canadian nationals to work onboard a cruise ship. This can be obtained at the US Embassy in your respective countries.

WHAT DOCUMENTS DO I NEED TO WORK ONBOARD A US-FLAGGED VESSEL, PRIDE OF AMERICA?

All crewmembers aboard the Pride of America are Merchant Mariners. In order to become a Merchant Mariner one must be in possession of a Merchant Mariner Card (MMC) and a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card. The MMC is issued through the United States Coast Guard (USCG) and the TWIC is issued through the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). You cannot work onboard our US-flagged vessel without these documents! NCL will assist you with obtaining all necessary credentials to work onboard the Pride of America.

WHAT SORT OF TRAINING DO I NEED TO COMPLETE IN ORDER TO BE A US MERCHANT MARINER?

All of our crewmembers must successfully complete Standards for Training Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) training. This training is implemented and conducted by the USCG. The STCW training is a one week course held onboard the Pride of America. NCL will coordinate your STCW Training prior to your first shipboard assignment.

WHERE CAN I LEARN MORE ABOUT MMC’S, STCW COURSES AND OTHER US MERCHANT MARINER RELATED- MATERIAL?

You can learn more about becoming a Merchant Mariner by visiting the United States Coast Guard’s National Maritime Center (NMC) website at: www.uscg.mil/nmc/ or calling 1-888-IASKNMC

WHERE CAN I LEARN MORE ABOUT THE TWIC CARD?

You can learn more about the TWIC card by visiting www.tsa.gov/what_we_do/layers/twic/twic_faqs.shtm

WHERE DO I SLEEP AND WHAT WILL IT LOOK LIKE?

Living space can vary based on ship and the position. While the management level position will have a single room, non-management will be sharing with roommates. Although the room is small, you will have a comfy bed, a shared tv, personal closet space and full bathroom. You’ll have clean sheets and fresh towels!

IS THERE A PLACE TO RELAX?

Yes. There is a common room where our employees can gather to play games, share experiences and even to watch a movie. In some ships, we even have an Internet Cafe just for our crew to check in with what’s going on back at home.

CAN YOU DRINK ALCOHOL ONBOARD?

Yes, when you’re not scheduled to work and off duty. Just remember that we have a zero tolerance policy for certain positions and alcohol limitations. And no matter what, YOU are RESPONSIBLE for being on time for your shift and SOBER! Reporting to work under the influence or hung over is cause for immediate termination. That’s definitely NOT what you want to happen!

CAN I BRING A FRIEND, FAMILY, MAYBE A PET?

Space onboard is very limited. Any offer is for employee only.

WHAT SHOULD I PACK?

We recommend that you pack for a 1-week trip and consider bringing items that are on the suggested packing list. We’ll set you up with the proper uniforms so you need off-duty clothes. There are times when you may be called on to participate in a formal event, so one dressy outfit is worth packing. There are shops onboard that our employees can shop from, at a discounted rate. And some of the best bargains can be found at some of the ports you’ll visit.

WHAT ABOUT MEDICAL CARE?

While you’re onboard, the medical doctor onboard will provide you medical care.

CAN I USE THE GUEST POOL AND THE GYM?

Guest facilities are for guests only. Employees are provided with employee only facilities. We have a well equipped gym onboard for you to keep in shape! However, we just don’t have the space for an employee only pool. But, many itineraries offer a port of call with some of the most beautiful beaches and resorts that you can visit if you’re off duty and headed a shore.

WHAT’S THE CHAIN OF COMMAND?

The ultimate final word is the Captain, Master of the vessel. There is a clear chain of command that should be followed in seeking advice, assistance, resolutions, etc.

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE END OF MY ASSIGNMENT?

Each assignment concludes with a performance review. Based on the evaluation, you will be asked to return. In some cases, we can even provide a return assignment before you even leave the ship.

IS THERE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BRANDS?

Yes, our U.S. Flagged ships and International Fleet have some differences in terms of employment conditions. At the time of hire, you will be explained in detail the terms and conditions for the brand you are being assigned.

UNCLE SAM?

If you work on a U.S. Flagged ship, Pride of America, you will pay all applicable federal, State/Hawaiian and local taxes.

U.S. crew members assigned to an international ship will have federal taxes withheld.

If you are assigned to an international ship, it will be your responsibility to report income earned when you return to your respective country.

SOME FACTS ABOUT FLYING

HAVE YOU EVER watched a balloon as it slowly meandered upward into the sky?

The balloon is able to fly because the air within it is lighter than the surrounding air—just set it free and it’s off.

Many people think quite differently about airplanes, however. Knowing that these machines are clearly heavier than air, they might wonder what exactly keeps an airplane in the sky. And they might fear that any airplane might just fall out of the sky. In fact, to some people, airplanes seem more at peace sitting on the ground than they do in the air.

Perhaps during a recent flight you found yourself worrying about some of the following:

  • A wing might fall off
  • One of the engines might stop
  • Turbulence might make the plane tip over and lose control
  • The plane might fall from the sky and crash

If so, this page will help you understand some basic principles of aircraft flight. You’ll learn that many fears are unfounded, and that some feared events not only are improbable but also are not as dangerous as might be believed.

Although aerodynamics is a very complicated topic, one simplistic statement sums up the basic principle of flight: An airplane stays up because its wings push the air down.[1] This is called “lift.” An airplane generates lift, however, only when it is moving. This is completely different than a lighter-than-air balloon. It’s also common sense, because we all know that parked airplanes—even taxiing airplanes—are not flying. An airplane flies only when it builds up enough speed in the take-off run. At take-off, the wings have sufficient airspeed to “push down” hard enough on the air to overcome the airplane’s weight.

But this is not the whole story.

It’s a common mistake to confuse an airplane’s ability to fly with the need for an engine to push or pull it through the air. Consider that gliders can stay aloft for hours riding rising air currents, but if a glider is towed aloft and finds the air not good for sailing, it turns around and glides back down to the airport. The principle here is this: Altitude can always be “traded in” for airspeed.

The same thing is true for regular airplanes. Even with all the engines stopped an airplane can glide back down. Of course, it won’t glide as well as a sailplane, and it can’t climb in an updraft, but it won’t fall like a rock either. Its altitude will be traded for airspeed, and the airspeed will generate enough lift to fly it back down to the ground for a safe landing.

You can also be rest assured that pilots are specifically trained to fly an airplane with any number of engines—including all of them—not working. (And on jets, if an engine catches fire, built-in fire extinguishers will put out the fire.) Getting back to the ground after an emergency might be scary, but you will likely survive.

Turning Flight
Many people become frightened when an airplane makes a steep turn. Usually, passenger aircraft keep their turns shallow for just this reason, but sometimes, especially on take off, noise abatement regulations require a sharp turn to avoid noise-sensitive areas on the ground.

In this regard, it’s important to know that an airplane does not turn with its rudder, like a boat in the water; it must bank its wings to turn. Aerodynamically, the wings must generate some extra lift to pull the plane around in the turn; this extra lift generates a considerable centrifugal force. Pilots often describe this as pulling +Gz. This force is measured in units of gravity, so a moderately steep 2G turn draws as much force as twice the pull of gravity. So you, as a passenger within the turning airplane, will feel pulled down into your seat as a result.

This is not a sign that the airplane is about to tip over, as some people fear. An airplane can bank as much as it wants. The airplane can actually fly quite well when it is upside down (although any cabin items and passengers that are not securely fastened down will have problems). In fact, aerobatic pilots have flown aerobatics just for fun—take great delight in flying upside down (inverted flight), on edge (knife-edge flight), and going all the way around (a roll).

Sounds of Flight

Many strange sounds that occur during the course of a flight can be disturbing if you do not know what causes them. The following are a few sounds you might try to recognize:

  • Just after take-off the landing gear will be retracted, causing a thumping sound.
  • You might also hear a whirring sound as a motor retracts the flaps and spoilers. (These are made to stick out of the back of the wings in order to add extra lift on take-off and to help slow the airplane on descent.)
  • You might hear the engines throttle back when leveling off for cruise.
  • You might hear whirring sounds as flaps and spoilers are extended for descent and landing.
  • Finally, before landing, you will hear thumping as the landing gear comes down.

After reading this article, hopefully you will enjoy your flight more and not worry about various noise and turns. If you still feel something is beyond your understanding ask your crew to explain.
