Air Cabin Crew | Air Hostess Job Description

The role of an air cabin crew member is to provide excellent customer service to passengers while ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the flight. They are trained to deal with security and emergency situations which may arise and can administer first aid to passengers. Cabin crew ensure that all emergency equipment is in working order prior to take off and that there are enough supplies. They also help passengers to board the plane and give a demonstration of safety procedures and equipment.

Air cabin crew strive to make the flying experience a pleasant one for the passengers and will serve refreshments and meals and sell gifts and duty-free items. Cabin crew may work on short or long-haul flights.

Typical work Activities:

Attending a pre-flight briefing, during which air cabin crew are assigned their working positions for the upcoming flight. Crew are also informed of flight details, the schedule and if there are passengers with any special requirements, such as diabetic passengers, passengers in wheelchairs or the number of infants on board;

Carrying out pre-flight duties, including checking the safety equipment and security checks, ensuring the aircraft is clean and tidy, ensuring that information in the seat pockets is up to date and that all meals, drinks and stock are on board; Welcoming passengers on board and directing them to their seats

  • Informing fliers of the aircraft safety procedures and ensuring that all hand luggage is securely stored away
  • Checking all seat belts and galleys are secure prior to take-off
  • Making announcements on behalf of the pilot and answering questions during the flight
  • Serving meals and refreshments;
  • Selling duty-free goods and advising passengers of any allowance restrictions in force at their destination
  • Reassuring passengers and ensuring that they follow safety procedures correctly in emergency situations
  • Giving first aid where necessary
  • Ensuring passengers disembark safely at the end of a flight and checking that there is no luggage left in the overhead lockers and no stowaways or suspicious items on board
  • Completing paperwork, including writing a flight report.

Eligibility

  1. Minimum age of 18 to Maximum of  24, depending on the airline
  2. Fluent English
  3. Be willing and able to work shifts
  4. Minimum height for Female  157.5 cms for Male  167.5 cms, depending on the airline
  5. Being able to swim
  6. No visible tattoos or body piercings while wearing the uniform
  7. No criminal record
  8. Have a healthy BMI
  9. Excellent Grooming
  10. Minimum high school education
  11. Have a valid Passport

Air Hostess and Cabin Crew Salary and Perks

An air hostess as a career has always been a premium option in India. Let’s talk about the actual salary of an air hostess, in India for the domestic airlines; a candidate gets around ₹ 25,000 to ₹ 40,000 per month depending upon the company at entry level. For the international airlines; they will get ₹ 40,000 to ₹ 75,000 per month for the same. With experience, this salary increases to ₹ 1.25 Lacs per month for domestic airlines and ₹ 1.75 Lacs per month for international airlines.

Apart from the basic salary; whenever an air hostess exceeds the total number of on-flight hours, they are entitled to an additional pay per hour. It could be somewhere between ₹ 375 per hour to ₹ 525 per hours as per various company’s flying allowance. In case, there would be any over-night halt; then they will be entitled to a layover allowance up to ₹ 500 per layovers along with decent hotel accommodation.
